Essay 4

Title: I. The Ephemera: An Emblem of Human Life

Author: Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790)

What is the approach the writer used in the introductory paragraph? The writer was able to start from an outside prospective and then work to entice the reader into the story.

Thesis: YOU may remember, my dear friend, that when we lately spend that happy day in the delightful garden and sweet society of the Moulin Joly, I stopped a little in one of our walks, and stayed some time behind the company.

Was the introduction effective? (100 words) In my personal opinion I thought that the conclusion was too effective. I saw how it introduced the thesis efficiently as well as througholy and then went into doing its own thing in the story. I really liked the paragraph and the way that it was put together. I feel that it was from an outside view at first and then really changed to a more personal view of the author. I however did feel though that it was a little long and dragged on. But that is how I feel about all the old stories that are like this. To me they are not real interesting.

What technique did author use in conclusion? The author sounded very bright in his conclusion. He was able to express views and concluding thoughts on how he felt.

Was the conclusion effective?(100 words)In my personal opinion I felt that the introduction was kept very short and sweet. It was not too long to the point where it was boring, it was upbeat enough to end the story. It got his point across and made the readers beclieve that it was realyl what he was going through then. It tied up the loose strings put an end to the unfamiliar statements above and all together made sense. I guess that sometimes you just have to continue to read in order to understand and get the most out of the individual stories.
